Self-Care 101: Easy Practices for Busy Moms
I'm a mother of two, and I've learned that self-care can't be treated like an optional activity. When you're busy raising kids, it's easy to feel like your own needs take a back seat to everyone else's. And yet, if you don't take care of yourself first, how can you be at your best for your family? Self-care doesn't have to be complicated or expensive; even small steps like getting enough sleep and scheduling time for yourself will make all the difference in how much energy you have left over at the end of each day—and how well you're able to handle whatever comes next.
Start your day with self-care.
Wake up earlier if you can and set the tone for the day by doing something that makes you feel good. Get outside for some fresh air and sunshine, take a bath or shower (or both!), drink a cup of tea or coffee while reading something uplifting--it's all about what works for you!
Take a break for yourself in the middle of the day.
If you don't have time to take an extended lunch break, consider taking a short walk around the block. Taking a few minutes to do something (other than work) that allows you to be alone with your thoughts is another way of rebalancing yourself. If it isn't possible for you to leave work, try listening or singing along as music until it's time for your next meeting!
Make self-care a priority before bedtime.
- Give yourself a mini facial.
- Watch an episode of your favorite show.
- Do some deep breathing.
- Meditate on your purpose in life and how it can be used to help others.
- Do a 15-minute workout routine (even if it's just walking around outside).
Self-care isn't selfish; it's a necessary part of life that allows you to be at your best!

As a mom, you're constantly putting others first. You take care of the kids, keep the house clean and tidy, cook meals for everyone, help with homework and projects--the list goes on and on. But did you know that taking care of yourself is just as important? In fact, it's one of the most important things we can do as parents.
It's important to remember that self-care is a journey, not a destination. You may find yourself struggling with certain aspects at first and that's okay! The most important thing is that you keep trying new things and making progress over time.
